WHAT IS LENT and WHAT DO WE DO IF WE ARE BAPTIST?

While we do not officially celebrate Lent at OPBC, there are several folks who have been asking questions recently about Lent. Here is a great explanation and resource from Village Church that may be a big help for all of us.

Lent Guide from Village ChurchI like the idea of the weekly fasts they outline here. I personally will be using this this Lenten season.

Journey to the Cross (Providence Church/ Austin, TX): A devotional guide for Lent

Lent or No Lent, Life is War (Desiring God): Lent as Everyday Life… a great help in everyday living.

A Prayer for a Gospel-Saturated, Penance Free Lent (Scotty Smith): Just remember, if you are observing Lent, you do not need to make penance if Jesus has paid it all. “It’s all about you, Jesus. It is all about you what you’ve done for us, not what we’ll promise to do for you.”

TWEETABLE QUOTES:

Maybe give up coffee or soda and make it matter? Help 1,000 Zambians get water.

RESOURCES:

Jesus, Keep Me Near the Cross (edited by Nancy Guthrie): A great devotional leading up to Easter… available in the Book Nook at the church

Love to the Uttermost (John Piper): Free e-book for Holy Week… get it now and be prepared
