All throughout the month of January, we want to encourage each other to pray with intention for God to move in a new great spiritual awakening in our land and world. This month, take 1 hour each week for 5 weeks to be fully engaged in praying for our lives, families, churches, nation, and world. 15 minutes of Scripture Reading/ personal worship and singing; 15 minutes writing down and exploring prayer requests; 30 minutes praying… individually, with your family, with your growth group. Do this all in one hour, or spread through the whole week… Just PRAY.
WEEK 1 Resources for PRAYING FOR MYSELF AND MY FAMILY
- Write down the names of family members and pray for them BY NAME.
- Write down the names of family members who need salvation in Christ. Pray for their salvation. Would you SHARE the list of first names with your pastors? OPBC members can email your lists to office@powhatanbaptist.org. We will share first names only among OPBC members to pray.
- Pray for your own willingness to be a witness in 2017. Pray for boldness and an unashamed heart to proclaim the excellencies of Jesus to those around you.
- Confess and repent of sin and unwillingness to share the Gospel

Jesus Also Had Unbelieving Family Members (Jon Bloom/ Desiring God): “It is moving to hear James refer to his brother as “our Lord Jesus Christ, the Lord of glory” (James 2:1). Can you imagine what this phrase meant for James? The Lord of glory had once slept beside him, ate at his dinner table, played with his friends, spoke to him like a brother, endured his unbelief, paid the debt of his sin, and then brought him to faith. It may have taken 20-30 years of faithful, prayerful witness by the Son of God, but the miracle occurred: his brothers believed. May the Lord of glory grant the same grace to our beloved unbelievers.”
