Sunday Worship Preview: 1/7/18

Tomorrow we plan to meet for Bible Study at 9:45AM and Worship at 11:00AM ONLY. The extremely low temperatures in the early morning and the icy Old Church Road make it unwise to hold the 8:30AM service. (This is an update) Make plans to join us. If we determine that the road to the church is too dangerous in the morning, we will only have Bible Study and 11:00AM worship.

Prepare your hearts to take the Lord’s Supper together tomorrow.

1 Corinthians 11:23–32

[23] For I received from the Lord what I also delivered to you, that the Lord Jesus on the night when he was betrayed took bread, [24] and when he had given thanks, he broke it, and said, “This is my body, which is for you. Do this in remembrance of me.” [25] In the same way also he took the cup, after supper, saying, “This cup is the new covenant in my blood. Do this, as often as you drink it, in remembrance of me.” [26] For as often as you eat this bread and drink the cup, you proclaim the Lord’s death until he comes.

[27] Whoever, therefore, eats the bread or drinks the cup of the Lord in an unworthy manner will be guilty concerning the body and blood of the Lord. [28] Let a person examine himself, then, and so eat of the bread and drink of the cup. [29] For anyone who eats and drinks without discerning the body eats and drinks judgment on himself. [30] That is why many of you are weak and ill, and some have died. [31] But if we judged ourselves truly, we would not be judged. [32] But when we are judged by the Lord, we are disciplined so that we may not be condemned along with the world. (ESV)

We will also be looking at Ecclesiastes 11:1-6 during the sermon tomorrow.

Ecclesiastes 11:1–6

[1] Cast your bread upon the waters,
for you will find it after many days.
[2] Give a portion to seven, or even to eight,
for you know not what disaster may happen on earth.
[3] If the clouds are full of rain,
they empty themselves on the earth,
and if a tree falls to the south or to the north,
in the place where the tree falls, there it will lie.
[4] He who observes the wind will not sow,
and he who regards the clouds will not reap.

[5] As you do not know the way the spirit comes to the bones in the womb of a woman with child, so you do not know the work of God who makes everything. [6] In the morning sow your seed, and at evening withhold not your hand, for you do not know which will prosper, this or that, or whether both alike will be good. (ESV)
