Sunday Sermon Recap: June 1, 2014

The Real Heaven: Part 3 (Rewards? Part 1)

Here is the list of Scriptures I referenced in this week’s sermon to demonstrate that rewards are Biblical. I’ve had several people ask for this list, so here goes.

ARE REWARDS BIBLICAL?

1 Corinthians 3:11-15

(11)  For no one can lay a foundation other than that which is laid, which is Jesus Christ.

(12)  Now if anyone builds on the foundation with gold, silver, precious stones, wood, hay, straw-

(13)  each one’s work will become manifest, for the Day will disclose it, because it will be revealed by fire, and the fire will test what sort of work each one has done.

(14)  If the work that anyone has built on the foundation survives, he will receive a reward.

(15)  If anyone’s work is burned up, he will suffer loss, though he himself will be saved, but only as through fire.

Matthew 5:10-12  “Blessed are those who are persecuted for righteousness’ sake, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.  (11)  “Blessed are you when others revile you and persecute you and utter all kinds of evil against you falsely on my account.  (12)  Rejoice and be glad, for your reward is great in heaven, for so they persecuted the prophets who were before you.

Matthew 10:42  And whoever gives one of these little ones even a cup of cold water because he is a disciple, truly, I say to you, he will by no means lose his reward.”

1 Corinthians 9:24-25  Do you not know that in a race all the runners run, but only one receives the prize? So run that you may obtain it.  (25)  Every athlete exercises self-control in all things. They do it to receive a perishable wreath, but we an imperishable.

Galatians 6:9  And let us not grow weary of doing good, for in due season we will reap, if we do not give up.

Matthew 16:24-27  Then Jesus told his disciples, “If anyone would come after me, let him deny himself and take up his cross and follow me.  (25)  For whoever would save his life will lose it, but whoever loses his life for my sake will find it.  (26)  For what will it profit a man if he gains the whole world and forfeits his soul? Or what shall a man give in return for his soul?  (27)  For the Son of Man is going to come with his angels in the glory of his Father, and then he will repay each person according to what he has done.

1 Timothy 6:17-19  As for the rich in this present age, charge them not to be haughty, nor to set their hopes on the uncertainty of riches, but on God, who richly provides us with everything to enjoy.  (18)  They are to do good, to be rich in good works, to be generous and ready to share,  (19)  thus storing up treasure for themselves as a good foundation for the future, so that they may take hold of that which is truly life.

2 Corinthians 5:10  For we must all appear before the judgment seat of Christ, so that each one may receive what is due for what he has done in the body, whether good or evil.

Revelation 2:23  And all the churches will know that I am he who searches mind and heart, and I will give to each of you according to your works.

Romans 14:10-12  Why do you pass judgment on your brother? Or you, why do you despise your brother? For we will all stand before the judgment seat of God;  (11)  for it is written, “As I live, says the Lord, every knee shall bow to me, and every tongue shall confess to God.”  (12)  So then each of us will give an account of himself to God.

Colossians 3:23-25  Whatever you do, work heartily, as for the Lord and not for men,  (24)  knowing that from the Lord you will receive the inheritance as your reward. You are serving the Lord Christ.  (25)  For the wrongdoer will be paid back for the wrong he has done, and there is no partiality.

2 Timothy 4:7-8  I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith.  (8)  Henceforth there is laid up for me the crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous judge, will award to me on that Day, and not only to me but also to all who have loved his appearing.
