Thankful… cont’d

30-days-of-thanksgiving

14. The privilege and calling to preach God’s Word. The most challenging, difficult and fulfilling calling. And yet the most obvious place in my life where God’s strength, grace, and power are my only sufficiency. (Request: Please pray for me as I prepare to preach and as I preach on Sunday… and pray for yourself to be ready to hear from the Lord.)

“The greatest privilege of earthly life is to give some fellow creature the blessed word of God, and then try by loving speech and example, to bring home to the heart and conscience…the truths it contains.” ~J. A. Broadus

“I preached as never sure to preach again, and as a dying man to dying men.” ― Richard Baxter

“One of my great goals in life is to live long enough to where I am in the pulpit, preaching my heart out, and I die on the spot, my chin hits the pulpit – boom! – and I’m down and out. What a way to die!”–Charles R. Swindoll

“The first duty of the gospel preacher is to declare God’s law and to show the nature of sin.” ~Martin Luther

“It is a poor sermon that gives no offense; that neither makes the hearer displeased with himself nor with the preacher” ~George whitefield
