This week, students from Old Powhatan Baptist Church, Seaford Baptist Church, Bacon’s Castle Baptist Church, Beaverdam Baptist Church, Mt. Pleasant Baptist Church, Hopeful Baptist Church, Bethany Place Baptist Church, North Roxboro Baptist Church, Emmaus Christian Church, and Red Lane Baptist Church all gathered in Seaford, VA to serve a community with love and the Gospel and to grow in our knowledge of God’s great and glorious good news for the world. This is the fruition of a big dream several years ago that God has birthed and blessed.
Students and adult volunteers spend time serving in food drives (1700 lbs of food was collected for food banks), in serving in building projects and fellowship at nursing homes, beach evangelism, yard work and cleanup/ painting, serving Catalyst Church plant, canvassing neighborhoods, gathering shoes for the needy, fence repair for the city parks, working with Youth Challenge, LINK… and more. 16 teams to over 30 sites. As Pastor Michael Howard said, “I have heard so many negative things said about God’s church on my television lately. How about this for a story? His Bride is made beautiful and effective by His grace and glory.”
Dr. Alvin Reid, camp pastor for the week, said, “I really enjoy speaking at youth camps, especially those focused on leadership or missions. This week’s Imitate camp has focused on missions. Several youth groups came to Seaford, Virginia, to serve in a variety of ways. I’ve been blessed to preach every night and it’s been awesome. We have to stop treating teenagers like goofballs and challenge them to live for Christ now. So many just need a vision, encouragement, and permission to do so.”
Special thanks to Cloverton and Dr. Alvin Reid for serving us so willingly and so well all week. And a great big thank you to all of the great volunteers from OPBC and Seaford Baptist for all your sacrifice and hard work.
But this week would not have been possible without the immense amount of work that Pastor Michael Howard put in to planning, producing, and leading the week. I am proud to call him my friend.
Check out the week recap video. And pray that the fruit of the Gospel will grow mightily in those who were touched this week and in the lives of the teenagers and adults who were serving. To God Be the Glory!
