Just a friendly reminder that Sunday, January 31 is BIG GIVE SUNDAY. It is a great week to consider what would happen if we ALL gave generously from hearts full of love toward God. It is also a week to catch up on giving from this Sunday’s “snowmaggedon.”
Here are a few thoughts on giving…
A.B. Simpson: “There is no harm whatever in having money, houses, lands, friends and children if you do not value these things or ones for themselves.”
C.H. Spurgeon: “God has a way of giving by the cartloads to those who give away by shovelfuls.”
William Gurnall: “We are justified, not by giving anything to God, – what we do, – but by receiving from God, what Christ hath done for us.”
Amy Carmichael: “You can always give without loving, but you can never love without giving.”
C.S. Lewis: “If our expenditure on comforts, luxuries, amusements, etc., is up to the standard common among those with the same income as our own, we are probably giving away too little. If our charities do not at all pinch or hamper us, I should say they are too small. There ought to be things we should like to do and cannot because our charitable expenditure excludes them.”
John Piper: “The person who thinks the money he makes is meant mainly to increase his comforts on earth is a fool, Jesus says. Wise people know that all their money belongs to God and should be used to show that God, and not money, is their treasure, their comfort, their joy, and their security.”
Adrian Rogers: “God doesn’t need us to give Him our money. He owns everything. Tithing is God’s way to grow Christians.”
C.H. Spurgeon: “In all of my years of service to my Lord, I have discovered a truth that has never failed and has never been compromised. That truth is that it is beyond the realm of possibilities that one has the ability to out give God. Even if I give the whole of my worth to Him, He will find a way to give back to me much more than I gave.”
Pastor Roger will be preaching and we will have a great time of fellowship and food after the 11AM service. Bring a dish or two to share and join the fun.
