Families… Summers are a fun time… but often we can find ourselves at the end of the summer wondering, “What did we actually accomplish?” Let’s not waste this summer. Let’s make an eternal impact in our families and community. The Village Church in Texas has provided us with a great guide for families with kids for the summer. Take time to download and look through your copy here.
Dueteronomy 6: 4-9 4 “Hear, O Israel: dThe LORD our God, the LORD is one.2 5 You eshall love the LORD your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your might. 6 And fthese words that I command you today shall be on your heart.7 gYou shall teach them diligently to your children, and shall talk of them when you sit in your house, and when you walk by the way, and when you lie down, and when you rise. 8 hYou shall bind them as a sign on your hand, and they shall be as frontlets between your eyes. 9 iYou shall write them on the doorposts of your house and on your gates.
At the heart of the guide are four principles from Deuteronomy 6:
The activities and devotionals in this resource have been divided into four
sections to follow the model of Deuteronomy 6:
SET A RHYTHM. These are activities your family can do repeatedly and
consistently throughout the summer. Some of them will help you put
things in place to establish a routine for your family. Others will help you
think about ways to be missional—intentionally connecting with people
in your community whom you interact with on a consistent basis.
AT HOME. These activities can be easily done as you spend time at home.
Many of them include a devotional at the end that will help your kids
make a connection between what they have done and a truth from
Scripture.
OUT AND ABOUT. These activities can be done on outings you take as a
family.
ON THE WAY. These are activities that can be done as your family travels—
whether you’re moving about by land, air or sea.
